Improvement agent and method for cancer cachexia(Patent No. 6974892)Overview

The present invention relates to an improvement agent and method for cancer cachexia.

Cancer cachexia, often referred to as Cancer Anorexia-Cachexia Syndrome (CACS), is a multifactorial syndrome in the late stages of cancer. Symptoms of cancer cachexia include significant weight loss, as well as malnutrition, anemia, and others. In treating cachexia in the terminal stages of cancer, it is important to improve or alleviate these symptoms to enhance the Quality of Life (QOL) and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) of patients, even if survival time cannot be extended. The problem addressed by the present invention is to provide a novel improvement agent for cancer cachexia. The inventors have discovered that culture supernatant of dental pulp-derived stem cells, or extracellular vesicles and other nanoparticles derived from the culture supernatant, can improve various symptoms of cachexia in a cancer cachexia model mouse.
